Peddle Past Poverty

Please print out and mail or email this REGISTRATION FORM to participate in the Family Ride for Peddle Past Poverty.  Email completed forms to Julie Marcum-Hart.
Catholic Charities USA initiated a multi-faceted approach to reduce the number of families below the poverty line by 50%. Inspired by this campaign, Fr. Matt Ruhl decided to bring the campaign to communities across the U.S. through an event called, Cycling for ChangeCycling for Change is a nationwide bicycle ride led by Fr. Matt beginning at Cape Flattery, Washington and ending in Key West, Florida. Catholic Charities agencies across the nation are using this campaign to create events benefitting local Catholic Charities.
Cycling for Change spawned the local Idaho event, Peddle Past Poverty
Peddle Past Poverty was designed to bring greater awareness and increased tangibility to the issue of poverty in Idaho. To give this issue some camera time, Catholic Charities of Idaho created multiple events designed to engage community members at all socioeconomic levels.
The word Peddle, rather than Pedal was strategically chosen to represent the action in the form of a transitive verb meaning to promote an idea insistently. To do this, we need the support of in-kind sponsorships by our community partners.
Catholic Charities of Idaho sees Peddle Past Poverty as the perfect vehicle to generate energy around the poverty initiative in Idaho and to share the progress that has been made by 2010.
Catholic Charities of Idaho has chosen to host a 3-day event.

Friday, June 4th, will host a multitude of events. The morning of the 4th, a volunteer group has put a small golf tournament together, Putt Past Poverty. The tournament is being hosted at Shadow Valley Golf Course at 8AM. Also starting at 8AM, the Boise State University School of Social Work, The Center for Community Building to End Poverty, and Catholic Charities of Idaho will present a community Poverty simulation at Boise State Student Union Building. Members of the Boise State Football and Basketball teams will be participating in the event. Players will be interviewed about their participation in the simulation before their competitive grocery grab sponosred by Albertsons.  The grocery grab will take place at the Overland & Vista Albertsons at 10:30AM.

Saturday, June 5th, Catholic Charities will host our family ride to end poverty. Individuals will be asked to gather sponosrships of $20 or more, or donate $20 to participate.  Donations support Family Strengthening Services at Catholic Charities of Idaho. All donating participants will recieve an event t-shirt.  The Family ride will begin at St. Mary's Parish in Boise at 9:30AM and conclude at St. John's Cathedral by 10:30AM.  The total distance of the ride is 4.1 miles.  Prior to the famliy ride, CCI will host a smaller children’s ride called Tykes on Trikes at 8:30AM in the St. Mary's Parking Lot.

We are looking for additional community partnerships in Boise.  Major sponsors and individual pledges are needed.  Help make the eradication of poverty by 2020 possible by pledging your support today. Parties interested in sponsorship should contact Julie Marcum-Hart at (208)350-7484.

The Center for Community Building to end Poverty, Albertsons, Boise State School of Social Work, and Boise State Athletics are proud sponosors of Peddle Past Poverty.
