From Wounded to Called
Nearly eight years ago, while she was still in college, Katie came to CCI struggling with paralyzing anxiety brought on by a series of painful circumstances in her personal life. She felt overwhelmed and believed her anxiety was a weakness she simply needed to overcome. Through faith-based counseling, she found something she desperately needed: someone willing to patiently walk beside her and show her the love of Jesus.
Over time, Katie’s counselor began seeing something in her that she could not yet see in herself. When Katie shared insights during sessions, her counselor would sometimes say, “That sounds like something a counselor would say.” Those words stayed with her.
After college, Katie became a backpacking instructor and later worked in wilderness therapy with teens. As others continued to affirm her ability to help people who were struggling, she began to recognize that God might be calling her to the counseling profession. She entered graduate school and eventually returned to CCI—the very place where her own healing journey began.
Today, Katie serves as a CCI clinician, offering others the same hope and compassion that were once offered to her. Her story is a powerful reminder that what we experience as our greatest weakness can, in God's hands, become a source of strength and a gift to others.
“I began to resonate with 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, realizing that what I had once perceived was my greatest weakness, was actually my greatest gift I had to offer back to God.”
