Binh receives immigration legal assistance from Catholic Charities so she and her American children can remain united in the U.S.
|
In 2016, Binh came to the United States from Vietnam with dreams of a new life. In possession of a special U.S. Visa, Binh, along with her two children, entered our country to marry her American fiancé and father of her children. Her VISA required that she live in the U.S. with her husband for two years before applying to become a permanent U.S. resident. Sadly, bright dreams sometimes turn dark. Soon after getting married, Binh’s husband became physically and verbally abusive.
After months of extreme abuse and fear, Binh courageously pressed charges and took out a protective order. In retaliation, her husband told her he’d never help her become a U.S. citizen. They separated and divorced, with court-mandated joint custody of their American children. Alone in the U.S. with no family, having been married only briefly and without full custody of her children, Binh faced an unimaginable truth, that she would be forced to leave the U.S. and never see her daughters again. YOUR simple act of kindness can be someone else's life preserver.
The darkest hour, they say, is just before dawn. Binh’s prayers were answered when a friend told her about Catholic Charities of Idaho. When she arrived at our offices, her residency had almost expired. Understanding what was at stake, the CCI immigration team went to work. In short order an application providing proof of her status as a victim of abuse and hardship was in route to the Department of Homeland Security. Valuable supporting documents were gathered by CCI and submitted with the request, confirming Binh was working two jobs, burdened with medical debt, and required to pay child support to her unemployed ex-husband. We also helped Binh apply for a waiver of the U.S. application fees. Binh’s application was approved! When we first met Binh, she was despondent, discouraged, and without hope. But through the caring and professional services of Catholic Charities, along with her new U.S. resident card, bright dreams are once again part of Binh’s life. She has since remarried, welcomed a new baby boy, and has regained a heart filled with joy and hope. Do you believe in bright dreams? At Catholic Charities, we do! Unfortunately, Binh’s story is not unique, and we need your support to continue the work of helping brothers and sisters in need. Right here in Idaho. A one-time or monthly gift makes it possible for us to bring life-changing services to individuals, families, and our entire community. Please help revive the dreams of those who struggle! And remember us in your prayers. Rest assured of our prayers for you! |
