Rena learns practical parenting techniques and tools which are helping her today, thanks to Catholic Charities of Idaho
|
Rena is a loving mother who, in addition to a history of domestic abuse and a husband in jail, faces other challenges. She has a six year old daughter who suffers from autism and early childhood trauma, making her prone to disruptive behaviors and emotional swings. Her son, a more typical, willful three year old, challenges Rena’s authority, tests boundaries, and fights often with his sister. A stay at home mom with little income, Rena found herself short-tempered, under constant stress, and desperate for answers.
What would you do to ensure the protection, support, and proper parenting of your children in a situation like this? Luckily for Rena, someone recommended the services of Catholic Charities of Idaho. Through our Active Parenting class, Rena discovered a better way forward. Catholic Charities helped Rena understand that she should expect her special needs daughter to act out at times and that three year olds can behave, well, like three year olds. Catholic Charities gave Rena permission to take a deep breath and begin again, with a proactive and positive approach to parenting and family life.
“It’s much easier to learn if you’re not being pressured or judged.”
Catholic Charities offers parenting services in a nurturing environment, where it is okay to ask questions and learn. No judgment, just openness, support, constructive feedback, and helpful reinforcement. We teach parents like Rena practical techniques and tools for parenting – even in stressful situations. Our classes helped Rena not only acquire new skills, but make new friends. She continues to receive the ongoing support of professional and caring staff, not just during the classes, but well after.
Catholic Charities helps parents learn that the dream is possible: with effort and support, everyone can parent with less stress. Some parents, like Rena, face additional challenges. That is where Catholic Charities of Idaho steps in, ensuring that all parents have the skills, confidence, and training they need to succeed.
